Found a board the other day in one of the upstairs rooms that has someone's initials on it written in chalk. We carefully set the board aside and I photographed it to send to the Bayside Historical Society. I inquired whether the Society collected old boards and was enthusiastically informed that the society had a wonderful collection of boards from other cottages. Our board is now amongst friends in the Historical Society Collection!

  1. This is so cool. I found your blog through Dan Webster's baysidemaine.com web site. My name is Lindsay Huntoon, I've been coming to Bayside ever since I can remember. My folks actually met up there in the 1940's when they were kids. I met my boyfriend up there, and we come up every chance we can.

I can't wait to read about the restoration of this cottage. I knew the previous owners (Ed and Janel Miklos) very well (am good friends with Ed's brother in law, George Allen). One of my fondest memories of that cottage was a dinner I had there one Thanksgiving weekend a few years before Janel passed away.

Welcome to the community. If you're on Facebook, come join the "Bayside, Maine is a special place" group.

  2. My wife and I have watched the for sale sign for several summers. Our morning walks when we get away to Bayside usually made the loop around the Sunnyside. We will be glad to see the changes next time we get to visit. We own the Cameo Cottage down Shore Road toward Kelly's Cove. Good luck with the renovations. Larry & Kim Grindle

  4. Thanks Larry and Kim. We also own "Little Bohemia," the long low Arts and Crafts cottage on the corner of Shore and Cobe, which we renovated last year. Take a look: www.baysidemainecottagerental.blogspot.com

  5. I always admired the little red raspberry patch out by the road by the Litte Bohemia. I think you must have removed them, I didn't see them this summer. I never picked any but I admit I wanted to do so. I remember seeing a sign a few years back do not pick the berries. I planted my first plant last spring when we came up so I am hoping maybe I will get some berries next summer. Larry Grindle

  6. I moved them, there are some growing right on the corner there...please pick them. I wanted a nice uninterrupted lawn, because that is a major "style" area for the cottage and those patches were unruly looking!
